In the wee hours of yesterday morning (1:30am) my grandmother @ 76 yrs old was exsperiencing chest pains that woke her from a sound sleep, she was able to make it too the kitchen and take 2 aspirin, then over to the phone, she called my mother and told her that she was in trouble.
My mother picked her up and took her to the E.R.
She was admitted right away and was in deed facing heart attack.
From we understand today she is awaiting a bed in hamilton for angioplasty,or maybe even a pacemaker.
From what i understand about this in medical terms is that her S.A node is dysfunctional.
Her heart cannot maintain a normal rythym.
I spent the day with her today and even though her spirits are well she was distand at times in thought.
She is high risk at the moment for a massive heart attack, when asked about her options she signed a D.N.R.....DO NOT RESESITATE.
So the doctor says ...if you have a heart attack,we will just let you go,she answered ,yup!
As much as her answer upset me,it still bothered me to know that she is just giving up,i understand what she is saying as well, and wanting to die with dignity.
I find it funny how you end up looking back and wondering if you gave that person enough, was i the grandaughter that she was proud of...i feel i was,but i think with grandparents you dont get enough time.
I only had one set of grandparents,my grandfather passed away when i was 15 and that was hard, but i think this is going to be harder.
